Upgraded KONE Academy to uplift elevator and escalator industry professionals’ skills and accelerate Indonesia’s urban development

To develop its employees and a new generation of workers for the fast-digitalizing elevator and escalator (E&E) industry, KONE today announced that it has modernized KONE Academy Jakarta, a bespoke facility to impart staff, partners and industry professional’s skills relevant to a new era driven by technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Overhauled over the last eight months, the five-story facility at Central Kemayoran now boasts the industry’s latest equipment and technologies including state-of-the-art lift shafts and lift cars, integrated turnstiles and application programming interface (API)-enabled robots. These facilities, along with advanced simulation systems, will increase the realism of elevator and escalator installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and dismantling training.

KONE Academy Jakarta also houses a customer experience center that showcases KONE’s latest innovations, including energy efficient and space optimized elevator solutions, as well as smart digital control systems that facilitate smooth people flow through buildings. These solutions seamlessly integrate with a wide range of ecosystem partners – including other Finnish innovators – to power smarter, more connected buildings tailored for the cities of tomorrow.

First established in March 2016, KONE Academy Jakarta had trained more than 15,000 Indonesian E&E professionals over the last nine years, who have gone on to keep the growing number of elevators and escalators in the country moving and safe.

The Academy’s launch comes in the wake of KONE’s certification last month as a “Great Place to Work” organization. Great Place to Work is a global authority accrediting companies that build and sustain high-trust, high-performing workplace cultures. The authority operates in over 60 countries to identify and recognize top workplaces through survey- and benchmark-based research. KONE is the first and only E&E company holding this certification in Indonesia.
